Burlap and Measuring Tape Trim

While I was busy sewing my daughter's bed skirt the other day, I quickly whipped up this burlap (hessian) table runner using some leftover burlap I had and some measuring tape trim I found in Spotlight.

I just cut the hessian (burlap) to size and sewed a border about 1cm in from the edge.  I attached the measuring tape trim along each short end, and then frayed the edges of the burlap.

The measuring tape trim is a heavy cotton tape.  This is the cream colour.  Spotlight also had it in white and it was about $3 per metre.

Aren't these pale pink roses pretty?  They are just from Woolies and are displayed in old glass jars and bottles.

I had some tape left over so I glued it onto an old medicine bottle.  The other bottle is just a section of scrapbook paper that I glued on with mod-podge.

This was super easy to make.  I also think the measuring tape trim would look great around the hem of a skirt or other piece of clothing.  What would you use it for?

  1. I bought some similar tape last year from TYPO.
I have used a little on a present, but I like your idea for the table runner.

  4. Looks great Kylie! Those roses are just beautiful too. You could use the tape as curtain ties or just wrap it around jars or bottles too, it's so cute it'd look good anywhere :)

  6. Gorgeous!! I, too, bought some like this about a year ago from Typo, but haven't decided what to do with it. Love it on your table runner and around the bottle!

    1. Thanks Stormy Girl. Why is it that we buy things and they sit there for ages while we work out what to do with them? LOL

  11. Those roses are such a devine colour, Woolies - who knew! The measuring tape is so cute. I would put it down the side of just one leg on a pair of black tailored 3/4 style pants for a summer fun look.
